Inventory existing tools
Find the needles, thread, scissors and spare buttons already at home. Remove damaged or rusted items.
Store sharp pieces securely
Use a closable container and cover needles. Keep the kit away from children and from damp storage.
Add only with a purpose
When a real repair needs another tool, choose one suitable for the fabric and method. A large kit is not useful if you cannot find the basics.
Do I need every thread color?
No. Start with colors you use often and add a close match when a garment needs it.
